I am not writing this blog to boast about being chronically sick, or in pain. I want to bring to light the fact that I am but I used not to be. Would like to tell you about the hospital system I go to. Also I know for a fact I am not alone in this matter. This post is in no way a blemish to the people who work there its a blemish to the admin of the system as well as a blemish to the government. Again this post as well as others are protected by the first amendment.
While I was working in the EMS field I started to have really bad periods, I never had regular ones or on time ones. I first went and got checked at my hospital John Petersmith in Fort Worth Texas. They told me nothing was wrong this was back in 2000, and I was just very low in my iron. They tried different birth control, which made me nauseous and very moody. They had wanted me to try to get my hormones under control. I went to another doctor out of the JPS network who found out my thyroid was one of the issues. I had it removed (so I thought , and that another blog post later) . Well fast forward to 2019 (19 years later) after going to the ER, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. Two weeks later I was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer as well as Cowden Syndrome. 19 years later think about that. I had told them in the ER that I had surgery on my thyroid , again they told me nothing was wrong on my thyroid. Well when I was having a routine CT scan on my torso for placement for my port for chemo, they found out my thyroid was in fact not removed (even though documents say other wise as well as surgery markers where clearly seen.) So that was another round of test, biopsy’s (5 all in all) as well as another surgery.
The thyroid surgery was nasty, it affected my voice and I had to relearn how to swallow. My surgeon was only able to remove a cyst on one of the thyroids, again I was under the impression that he was going to remove my thyroid. Again I was wrong.
Keep in mind at the time of all of this in 2019 I was 42. I shouldn’t be like this. I was a hard worker , Mother of two. If I wanted something I went out and worked for it . Now I am reduced to dizziness (I will get to that in a min) breathing issues, not to mention PTSD. Trying to keep stress low,(which is not happening) Trying to train a service dog while I am supposed to be resting after my last surgery. All on a Social Security Disability check of 548$ is really stressful.
Before I go into my last surgery, let me tell you this my ENT doctor is AMAZING!. When I went for a CT of my head they found that I had a hole in my head. You might be thinking WTF, let me explain. I was getting dizzy and having nasty migraine so my Primary order a CT. Because of my ears she thought that had something to do with it. But on further check there was a hole behind my small bones on my left side. Went into surgery I have a metal plate, four screws and they had to cut some of the brain tissue that had come out of that hole because it was dead. Now because of this I have this really cool scar behind my left ear. Lot of people trying to find out why the part of my skull on that side is so thick (insert joke). They also found another hole on my right side which they will repair later this year (2022)
Now that you have my back story let me tell you the reason I am writing this. I see a Psychologist, there is nothing wrong with seeing a shrink. I am supposed to see her once a month, yeah that hasn’t happen since November. She keeps having to cancel or move her schedule. My primary care doctor hasn’t rescheduled my last appointment that I had to cancel ( was in the ER) since December. She is not available for an appointment until APRIL. I have to see my Dermatologist for a skin tag that is in my left ear , remember the one I just had surgery on, they are not available until NOVEMBER. I am supposed to have a Colonoscopy once a year , you might be thinking who would be bitching about that, well remember I have colon cancer. They canceled it in 2021 and I cant get on the books for another one.
I know JPS is a teaching hospital. As well as a county hospital. I also know that we are still in a Pandemic. But here is my counter point. The State of Texas has extra funds for traveling doctors, and nurses. I know that there is no mandate for the vaccine either. I also know Tarrant County has a LOT of money coming in from property taxes not only in Arlington but other cites. Where is the glitch, why has the care of JPS gone down hill?
