As you know by now I have a rare genetic disease. I have to have certain test to maintain that cancers are at bay or I need to take further steps. I am going to write about something that happen to me, and my husband.
Let me first start off and state that yes I know nurses are stressed. She also might have had a bad day. However keep reading. I do love the nurses that take care of me on a regular bases. I will match your energy, step for step. It wont be pretty.
This blog is going to be about a test that I was supposed to have this morning (3rd of march). I was scheduled for a colonoscopy. To make sure my cancer had not come back. Did everything I was supposed to. Got the go gross meds, drank it did not eat for a whole day and just did the clear liquids and everything. Well it should have been a red flag when I got to the hospital and admissions was not even open yet. So waited around the office for about 20 mins while all the time people with food passing me and you can smell Mc Donalds. After finally getting checked in I explained to the lady that my husband is in the car taking a nap, and that he just got off work. She stated thats fine just give them his number and everything will be fine.
BOY was that wrong. I got upstairs and was greeted by a woman behind the glass that looked like she was annoyed for me being there. She stated that I needed to drop my papers and sit she will call me when she is ready. My time for this test was at 6:30am, she finally calls me back at 6:40am first thing out of her mouth is who is driving you. I told her my husband is downstairs in the car and is taking a nap. She said NO. He needs to be up here we need to see him and he needs to stay up here. I looked at her with a OMG I do not have enough spoons, forks, or knives for this look. I explained that I have had this done before and this has not been a case or problem. As long as he had his phone on it was okay. She told me to use the wall phone and to call him to come up here so we can get this going.
Now ever since my diagnose of my illness my husband has had to work two jobs. He also got off at midnight and well it takes him a little bit to get home. So when he got home, it was 1:30am after winding down, getting something to eat well it was about 2:30am. We had to get up at 5:15am just to get there at 6am. Now with that said you can say well I could have taken a taxi or had someone else do this. Yeah I do not have anyone and I depend on my husband.
So I did what the nurse asked. I also told her that he is going to be very grumpy. I called my husband and as I stated that he was very upset. I told him what was said and well he came up there just so they can see him. That was not enough. I told her that he was going to go down to Mc.Donalds to get some food seeing that he could not stay in his car. She told him NO. That it was okay for him to get food and bring it back but he has to stay here. Well that did not go very well with him and he fired back. The nurse even got more upset and I was growing very tired of all of the bs. I took off my hospital band and told her to cancel my appointment and I grabbed my husband and we left.
When we got home, I told my husband that I was sorry that he had to go through all of that. I also let my Primary Care doctor know what had happen. I also expressed that I am seriously now thinking about moving my care to another hospital.
That is indeed horrific. Why are jerk people like that even in healthcare? I could tell you some horror stories abut how I have been treated since DX of CS. How was your colon? Do you have to have EGD’s too?
